Reader Eight:High Definition

Reading: John 10 / Acts 17, I John 2

Like settling for standard definition television when HD exists, it seems many Christians settle for less than the complete picture when it comes to the intersection of their faith and daily life. Are we truly living the "abundant life" Jesus promised, or are we seeing only a part of the whole?

To get "the whole picture", we have to engage purposefully with our faith in practical, everyday ways. First, we can't receive all God has for us without a regular connection to God through prayer and meditating on Scripture. Second, the Bible teaches that our lives have purpose and destiny - even the places we live have been planned by God so we would seek Him, find Him, and point others to Him.We must look for purpose in every day. Third, we are taught to live out our faith through acts of service. Finally, it is essential that we learn to tell others the story of how God has transformed our lives.

Discuss:

  1. Which  of these four things is the most difficult for me? Which is the easiest?
  2. Do I really believe my everyday life has purpose? What opportunities might I be missing?
  3. What is my "story"?

Practice:

Spend time this week considering each of these four connection points. Pick one to think about at least once each day this week. Pray for opportunities to improve and enhance your connection in this area.
