Philippians

Reader 1: Grace and Peace

Reading: Philippians 1:1-2, Romans 8:1-2

There are two words that the Apostle Paul seems to enjoy writing most in his letters.  Grace and Peace.  Two small words with such great power and meaning in the life of a Christ-follower and the Church!

Grace speaks of God’s favor and free love to everyone, while peace speaks to experiencing ‘every kind of good’.  As we begin our summer-long look at Paul’s letter to the Philippian people, we would be wise to stop and give serious consideration to the opening words so long ago that have immense depth and relevancy for us today.  God still gives grace and we all can know his peace!  Yes, it’s not always easy to accept these gifts, and it’s even harder to practice grace and peace with others…but the effects of it can transform people’s lives for both the here and now!  Grace and Peace to you…

Discuss:
Can you remember what it was like to embrace God’s grace for the first time? How did it alter your life?
Peace has a way of interrupting our negative thoughts and feelings toward others and ourselves. Do you need peace to interrupt your life today?
Who in your life has been a great example of grace and peace?
